Materials
& finishes.
Bring the existing material and technical specification alongside artwork or samples. For a new direction, these details can be developed through supplier discussion and sampling.

Surface
Describe the colour, texture and sheen you want to explore. A physical reference can make the intended surface easier to discuss.
Record the artwork, colours, print area and whether a design continues across more than one face. Include any colour reference that needs matching.
Finishing details
If foil, an impression or a coating is part of the idea, identify where it belongs. Feasibility needs checking against the proposed material and artwork.
Structure
Specify inserts, separators, ribbons, handles, folds and box openings alongside the surface. Include the component dimensions, attachment, intended contents and functional requirements.
What should
a sample answer?
Specify what needs checking when discussing a physical sample.
See the sourcing approach- 01Does the product fit?
- 02Does the structure work for the intended use?
- 03Are the surface and colour acceptable?
- 04Are the artwork and details in the agreed position?
Include the details that matter.
A close photograph, current specification or marked-up artwork can help explain a surface, print or construction.
